Palace draws inspiration from 19th-century history paintings, exploring the male gaze in life and art history. Photography here becomes an imaginary land of the original painting, a true documentation of chronology, a new perspective on the relationship between power and gender. It is inspired by a traditional Chinese idiom, “女人不可登大雅之堂” (A woman should not enter the main hall).
