The fish on the chopping board

The Fish on the Chopping Board was in reference to an idiom that describes people who don't have a choice. It echoes the status of women's existence in a domestic space and calls for a feminist response. I filmed those fish being chopped off their head and those fish struggling to stay out of water referring to the women my mother's age who submit to their living status and their daughters in the next generation. I adopt the fish tank to build this nothingness installation to display the suffocating and desperate environment, as well as the struggle of women being trapped. I use Chinese, English, Korean, and Japanese subtitles and sound channels in my art practice. Illustrating the gaps in culture and education, I leave information and encourage the audiences to be active in creating their own personal associations of meaning and narrative.
